Why it matters
European Portuguese is a different language in practice
If you have been learning with an app, there is a good chance you have been learning Brazilian Portuguese — and then wondering why nobody in the Lisbon supermarket sounds anything like the recordings.
The differences are real and they are everywhere: European Portuguese swallows unstressed vowels, uses tu and você differently, prefers estou a falar where Brazil says estou falando, and has its own everyday vocabulary — telemóvel, casa de banho, autocarro.
I teach the Portuguese actually spoken in Portugal, with the listening practice you need to follow it at full speed.

Common questions
Do you teach European or Brazilian Portuguese?
European Portuguese — português de Portugal. This is the variety you need for daily life here and the only one accepted as preparation for the CIPLE exam.
I am a complete beginner. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Plenty of students start from zero. We begin with the language you need this week — greetings, shops, cafés, appointments — rather than grammar tables.
Can you prepare me for the CIPLE A2 exam?
Yes. Preparation covers all four parts of the exam — reading, writing, listening and speaking — with practice under exam conditions. Most learners need around 150–180 hours of study to reach A2 comfortably.
What do I need for an online lesson?
A stable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone, and a quiet spot. Lessons run over video call and all materials are shared digitally.
I already speak Brazilian Portuguese. Do I still need lessons?
For the CIPLE exam, yes — speaking Brazilian Portuguese does not exempt you. Lessons focus on the differences in pronunciation, vocabulary and structure, which is usually faster than starting from scratch.
