About your teacher

Olá, I’m Raquel

I’m a native Portuguese speaker and I teach the language the way it is actually spoken here — at normal speed, with the words people really use.

I have spent years teaching Portuguese to people who moved here as adults, and I understand how disorienting it is to arrive somewhere with paperwork to file, neighbours to greet and a language that sounds nothing like the one in your textbook.

My students are doctors, retirees, remote workers, parents and people who came for a year and stayed for ten. What they have in common is that they want to stop feeling like a visitor in the place they live.

How I teach

Lessons are conversation-first. You will speak from the first session, badly at first, and that is entirely the point — the students who progress fastest are the ones who are willing to make mistakes out loud.

Grammar gets explained when it unlocks something you want to say, not as a syllabus to march through. If you need the subjunctive to complain about your landlord, we will do the subjunctive.

What lessons are not

There are no scripted slides, no gamified streaks and no homework you will resent. If a lesson plan is not working for you, we change it.

Let’s have a conversation

The easiest way to find out whether we are a good fit is a trial lesson.
